Familiarity
Acrylic, fabric and plastic bag 60 x 75 cm
I could not help noticing the plastic and sculptural properties of a very familiar every day object like my pillow.
I tried to capture the traces of this familiarity so I reshaped their form in order to alter their hospitable shape. So I enclosed them in airtight hard plastic bags which deprived them the property of softness and that of the soothing and relaxing properties they had.
My aim was that the viewers of this work should observe the stiffness of the objects and reconsider the notion of familiarity with objects and people and simultaneously think to what extend familiarity could be taken for granted.
